Why do we list Aries first?
Let’s break it down:
It has everything to do with the equinoxes. The equinoxes are the two times of the year when day and night are of equal duration. In the Northern Hemisphere, we often refer to these days as the first day of spring (March 21st) and the first day of fall (September 22nd). These happen when the sun crosses the equator heading north to south (fall) or south to north (spring). The very moment that the sun crosses the equator from south to north is the beginning of a new astrological year, with the sun in the tropical sign of Aries.
