The Trinity of Astrology?

Let’s learn a few things:

We’ll start with the wheel.  An astrological wheel is simply a circular visual representation of one’s astrological chart.  It is composed of 12 sections that are referred to as ‘houses’. We observe it counterclockwise and starting where 9 o’clock would be on a standard analog clock this line is called the ‘Ascendant’; the Ascendant represents which sign was on the horizon at sunrise at the moment of your birth.  Under the 9 o’clock line and heading counterclockwise we start with the 1st house, then the 2nd house and so on through 12.  Opposite on the wheel of the 9 o’clock line (Ascendant) we have the 3 o’clock line (Descendant); this represents the sign descending below the horizon at the moment of your birth. (The descendant is not part of the astrological trinity, but is included in this article for completion sake.)

The sign we’re all most accustomed to is our ‘Sun Sign’.  This is which zodiac the sun was in at the moment of our birth.  The sun hangs out in a particular zodiac sign for approximately one month.  Finally, we have the moon, unlike the sun the moon moves through the signs much faster –  staying with each approximately 2 1/2 days.

The Ascendant is known as your rising sign, the Sun is your sun sign, and the Moon is your moon sign.  These 3 are the trinity of astrology and are very important.  We will review each of these individually and in more depth in other articles.
